No. 7 Suns Open DAC Play Thursday at Dallas College Richland

Dallas College Cedar Valley women's basketball team will begin Dallas Athletic Conference play Thursday when the Suns visit Dallas College Richland.

Tip off is 6 p.m.

Cedar Valley (8-3) is ranked No. 7 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III poll. The Suns were ranked as high as No. 6 – as recently as last week – and have been in the NJCAAA Top 15 all season. The Suns entered the preseason poll at No. 12, and have been in the Top 10 since Nov. 21.

Guard Shandrea Yeldell is averaging 18.5 points, while shooting 51 percent from the field. She is also averaging a team-best 3.4 steals and 3.8 assists per game. Guard Nakia Brumley is second on the team in scoring (18.0), first in assists (4.4) and second in steals (3.2). Center Sierra Headquist is averaging 12.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Forward Kayriona Brown leads the Suns in rebounding at 8.7 boards per game.

Cedar Valley is 4-0 on the road this season.

The Suns went 5-0 in DAC play last season, advancing to the NJCAA Division III Southeast District Tournament in Maryland.
