Suns Win Again to Wrap up Second Round of League Play

MESQUITE, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley men's basketball team won its second straight game, beating Dallas College Eastfield Saturday, 71-54.

The win sends the Suns into the third and final round of Dallas Athletic Conference play with a 9-13 overall, 3-7 league record. Cedar Valley will host Dallas College North Lake (12-13, 7-3 DAC) at 1 p.m. Saturday. The win avenged a 10-point loss to Eastfield (5-17, 4-6) earlier in the season.

Three players scored in double figures for the Suns, who were paced by Chris Vela's season-high 15 points. Armani Reese added 12 points, 10 boards, five blocks and two steals. Josh Beall added 10 points and three blocks. He was 4 of 9 from the floor. Marcel Hurst scored nine points off the bench for Cedar Valley. Chris Greenwood was credited with eight assists.

Cedar Valley, which shot 48.2 percent from the field, led by five at the break. The Suns held Eastfield to 27 points in both halves.

The Suns hit 7 of 12 three-pointers, and were 11-for-20 from the free throw line.

Cedar Valley, which improved to 5-6 on the road, will play its final home game Feb. 15 when it hosts Dallas College Brookhaven at 1 p.m. The regular season ends Feb. 22 at Eastfield. The National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District Tournament runs Feb. 25-March 1.
