Kennedy, Thomas, Washington and Blunson Selected to All-MAC/Region V Team
Desmond Kennedy, JF Thomas Jr. , Trent Washington and Amariye Blunson as released by the Metro Athletic Conference have received All-Metro Athletic Conference/Region V honors. Kennedy was named to the All-MAC/Region V First Team, while Thomas and Washington earned All-MAC/Region V Second Team accolades and Blunson garnered Honorable Mention recognition.
Desmond Kennedy capped off a sensational career at CVC this season, leading the MAC in points per game with 20.1 and was ranked fourth in the conference in three-point percentage, shooting 40.3%. Kennedy had 12 outings were he scored at least 20 points, including a 61 point showing against DFW Prep Academy and a 42 point outburst against defending NJCAA DIII National Champions, North Lake College. This is the second consecutive season the Dallas native has earned All-MAC/Region V honors, being named to the Second Team in the 2016-2017 season. He has also been selected as an NJCAA All-American nominee.
JF Thomas Jr. ended this season as the MAC-leading rebounder for the second consecutive year with 15.9 rebounds per game. Thomas also led the league in field goal percentage shooting 67.9%. JF also averaged a double-double for the second consecutive season, with 19.1 points per game, second in the conference to only fellow Sun, Desmond Kennedy. Following up his 2016-2017 campaign, where he was selected to the NJCAA All-American Team and named both All-MAC/Region V Freshman of the Year and First Team selection, Thomas improved in every major statistical category this season.
In his lone season with the Suns, Trent Washington made himself known in the Suns' backcourt averaging 20.9 points per game and shooting 54.2% from the field. Washington also shot 49.6% from beyond the arc. Washington had 10 outings where he scored at least 20 points, including 30+ outings against Eastfield, Mountain View, and Fort Hood Military Academy.
Sophmore Amariye Blunson has earned All-MAC/Region V Honorable Mention recognition. Since coming to Cedar Valley, Blunson has been a mainstay in the Suns' backcourt. This season he's averaged 10.3 ppg, 5.7 apg, and 3.3 rpg, all career highs for Blunson. The two-year starting PG was second in the MAC in three-point percentage (42.6%) and third in the MAC in assists.
