Cedar Valley Wins Regular Season Finale in Run-Rule
LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley baseball team ended the regular season with a 15-4 run-rule victory over Dallas College Mountain View Saturday.
The Suns (18-34) advances to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District Tournament to play Dallas College North Lake (27-29) at Dallas College Eastfield 11 a.m. Wednesday in a single-elimination game.
Cedar Valley exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning to put Mountain View away.
Julio Cuotto went 3 for 5 with a home run, a triple and four runs batted in. He was a double away from the cycle. Cuotto has six home runs this season. Carson Daniels went 3 for 3 with a walk. Kane Whitley had two hits and a walk, and drove in three runs. Rendon Garcia was 1 for 3 with a walk and three RBI.
Eight Suns had hits, and seven drove in runs in a game they outhit Mountain View 13-3.
Cedar Valley reliever Andrew Gardner (4-1) got the win after starter Jace Monroe went four innings, giving up one run on four walks. Blake Brown pitched the final two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and two walks.
The Suns built an 8-2 lead after five innings. Mountain View (20-30) scored twice in the sixth to cut the gap in half. But Cedar Valley put the game away early with the seven-run seventh.
Asher Bates was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI for the Lions, who meet Dallas College Richland (24-28-1) in Wednesday's single-elimination game.
The winners of Wednesday's games move on to the double-elimination round Thursday to meet either host Eastfield (41-13) or Dallas College Brookhaven (24-27).
