Baseball Sweeps Pair from Dallas Christian

DALLAS – Dallas College Cedar Valley's baseball team swept a doubleheader from Dallas Christian College Junior Varsity Monday, winning 13-1 and 5-1.

The Suns improved to 23-25 overall.

Cedar Valley had 11 hits in both games.

In the opener, Nathan Tucker went 4 for 4 with a walk, three runs batted in and a stolen base. Ryan Hernandez was 3 for 5 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base. Lane Atherton had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Joshawa Esquivel tripled and drove in two runs, while drawing a pair of walks. Elyjah Anderson doubled and had three RBI. Carson Daniels had two RBI. 

Starter Blake Brown (3-2) allowed a run, three hits and no walks, and struck out a season-high seven batters in the win. Avery Dubose pitched the last inning, giving up no runs, no walks and two hits.

In Game 2, the top four hitters in the Suns' lineup all had two hits. Rendon Garcia, Hernandez, Tucker and Atherton each had two hits. Garcia doubled, and drove in a run. Tucker tripled, and had an RBI. Atherton also drove in a run. Joshua Lile went 1 for 3 with a solo home run. Billy Rios IV was 1 for 3 with a double.

Dante Martinez (2-2) got the win in relief, pitching two scoreless innings, while giving up just a walk. Starter Francisco Hernandez went two innings, allowing only a walk, and struck out two to keep the Crusaders off the board. Lyncoln Schaeffer worked a scoreless inning, giving up a walk. William Messner went two innings, allowing a run on four hits and no walks.

Cedar Valley is scheduled to play a three-game series against No. 14 Dallas College Brookhaven, beginning 12 p.m. Thursday in Farmers Branch, Texas. Check the schedule for updates.
