Baseball Second Among NJCAA DIII All-Academic Teams, 21 Suns Collect Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Dallas College Cedar Valley's baseball team earned National Junior College Athletic Association All-Academic Team honors for the 12th straight year, and 21 student-athletes earned NJCAA All-Academic honors.

To be eligible for NJCAA All-Academic, a student-athlete must record a grade point average of 3.6 or higher for the academic year. Student-athletes who complete their degree requirements in the fall semester are exempt from taking courses in the spring. First Team All-Academic honorees post 4.0 GPAs. Student-athletes with GPAs of 3.8 and 3.99 earn Second Team honors. Student-athletes with GPAs of 3.6 to 3.79 are named Third Team All-Academic.

To be eligible for All-Academic Team honors, a team must post a minimum grade point average of 3.0 for the academic year. All student-athletes listed on the eligibility roster must be included in the team cumulative GPA.

The Suns baseball team had a GPA of 3.27 during the past school year. Cedar Valley recorded the second highest team GPA among NJCAA Division III baseball teams in 2023-24.

Men's soccer's Elias Prieto was a First Team All-Academic recipient.

Baseball's Ian Williams, Lane Atherton, Mateo Carrasco, Rafael Cortez, Nathan Tucker and Keller Thompson earned Second Team All-Academic honors. Women's basketball's Ciarrah Golden, women's soccer's Lacey Birdsong, Tessa Birdsong, Victoria Hernandez and Lilianna Tapia and volleyball's Miranda Roberts were each named Second Team All-Academic.

Baseball's Noah Johnson, Jacob Cueva and Javier Balderas, men's soccer's Diego Ibarra, women's basketball's Ciana Fudzie, women's soccer's Layla Matthews and Shakira Williams and men's basketball's Antonio Sisk all received Third Team All-Academic recognition.
