Baseball Tops NJCAA DIII All-Academic Teams, 21 Student-Athletes Honored

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley's baseball team received National Junior College Athletic Association All-Academic Team honors after posting a 3.58 grade point average for the academic year.

It was the highest GPA among NJCAA Division III baseball programs in the country and the sixth highest GPA for all three NJCAA Divisions this year. It also marked the 11th consecutive year the Suns have earned the team award, and the second highest GPA in program history. The 2015 team had a 3.62 GPA. 

Twenty-one Cedar Valley student-athletes received NJCAA All-Academic honors.

Five student-athletes were named First Team All-Academic after earning 4.0 grade point averages for the 2022-23 academic year. Women's soccer's Lacey Birdsong, volleyball's Calah Henthorn and baseball's Cooper Brewer, Landon Kinder and Jayden Ramos all were First Team All-Academic.

To receive Second Team All-Academic, a student-athlete must post a GPA between 3.8-3.99 and complete at least 24 credits during the school year. Student-athletes who earn a GPA between 3.6-3.79 are named Third Team All-Academic. Student-athletes who graduate in December with less than 24 credit hours are eligible. A team must post a cumulative GPA for the year of 3.00 or above, and all student-athletes who compete during the year are calculated into the team GPA.

Women's soccer's Tessa Birdsong, volleyball's Isaline Jaquemyn, men's basketball's Isaiah Sobers and baseball's Elian Gonzales, Samuel Massi, Carson Mills, Ryan Talley, Caden Robertson, Ian Williams and Blaine Thomas earned Second Team All-Academic honors.

Volleyball's Kalaya Pierce, women's basketball's Trinity Williams and baseball's Tyler Champagne, Rece Houghton, Noah Johnson, Matthew Marsic and Zachary Mikes received Third Team All-Academic honors.
